Kim has more than 20 years experience as a hairstylist, educator, and visionary thinker. Trained in the Aveda brand philosophy and techniques, she brings a fresh perspective and boundless dedication to her business. In May 2007 she opened Fringe Salon in Maplewood, NJ in order to expand her vision, serve her community, and mentor other like-minded stylists.
Kim’s career began in Detroit, MI with training in haircutting, color and extension work. After five years, she relocated to Chicago where she was appointed creative director of Curl Up and Dye, a large salon in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago. At the same time she served as a freelance educator for Salon Systems, the Aveda brand distributor in Chicago. During this time she discovered her passion for green business practice.
In 2000, Kim began working as a senior stylist and educator for the Aveda/Estee Lauder company, primarily in SoHo, New York City. During this time, she worked countless fashion shows including Olympus Fashion Week, worked with numerous modeling agenices and helped to create the hair and makeup looks for many fashion photographers. Kim’s work has been featured in both television and print. She has styled many celebrities including Margaret Cho, P.J. Harvey, and Natasha Lyonne.
